CANOE CAMPING TRIPS make for a great get away. Similar to backpacking trips they let you experience the wild outdoors but with out having to carry all the gear. All our trips are self guided and include camping on private land or in national forest locations along the river.

TRO is one of the few canoe liveries in Virginia that offers a true white water canoe camping experience for its customers. All camping is primitive with no facilities. We have carefully scouted and mapped all our trips. We have established sites for all our access points and for campsites. We have permission to use these spots and never break trespass laws by putting our customers in across private property or railroad tracks or directing them to camp wherever they wish. Most of the property along our rivers is private, so careful planning is important.

Reservations are required for all trips and can be me made by calling our main store number at 540-261-7334 or by completing reservation request tab at the top of this page. Please note the total passenger and gear weight limits for our canoes are 1000 lbs.

This trip features a scenic stretch of the James River as it makes its way through Rockbridge County. An exciting wilderness river adventure with plenty of nice size rapids to make the trip fun. The trip includes a 5 mile stretch river known as the James River Gorge, this section features the "Balcony Falls" rapid (Class III). Due to remoteness and difficulty of the rapids we carefully screen all groups before running this trip. Prior white water canoe experience required. Minimum age 12 years old, 10 w/ parent or guardian.
