Springwood to Buchanan 5 mile trip is run at 8AM and 10:30am daily.

For both these two trips we will transport you and your boats on our normal upstream shuttle runs. Reservations can be made by clicking the “Book Now” and choose “Shuttle Passenger Only (Bringing their own boat)” as you select either trip.

For down river shuttles from Buchanan to Arcadia or Alpine we will help you transport your car to the trip ending point. This is a car shuttle only with no gear transported. Multi-Day Trips Shuttles for Private Boaters

Multi-day paddle trips have become very popular in recent years on the Upper James River. Twin River Outfitters has opened three different river front campgrounds located one day paddle apart that allows customers to do variety of multi-day trip combinations. This camping network, plus public and commercial camping options in Rockbridge County allows customers to do a variety multi-day trip combinations ranging from a simple over night to a full 5 day adventure.

TRO frequently gets requests for folks to use their own boats on our trips but need camping spots and shuttle support. Paddlers with their own boats can choose to utilize just the Twin River camping network by clicking the camping tab at the top of this page and reserving campsites online for each night of their trip. This option works great if you are familiar with the river and are traveling with a group of several vehicles so your group can do their own shuttles.

For those paddlers wanting to benefit from using an outfitter to provide detailed trip planning, shuttle services, & camp site reservations then we recommend using our full livery shuttle service. Full livery shuttle service includes transporting you and your boats to and from the river access points, detailed trip / river conditions orientation, camp ground reservations, use of dry bags, 5 gallon water containers, use of dry boxes, river maps, and outfitter support as needed. To sign up for this service customers click the “Book Now” button below, choose your trip selection and date, then Choose “Shuttle Passenger Only (Bringing their own boat)” for each person using this service. Note some trips have minimum group size requirements. Per person pricing starts at: Two day trips $55, three day trips $69, four day trips $95, Five day trips at $119. 5.3% VA sales tax will be added to all rates. Book Now

Private Shuttle Rules

1) We can only accommodate overnight paddlers one of two ways:
Camping Only – customers must make campground reservations on line (phone reservations availability very limited) OR full livery, shuttle service, with camping. We don’t do any thing in between due to past experiences. This is the best option for visiting paddlers with their own boats that are unfamiliar the James River. For a variety of reasons we just can’t offer trip planning to folks that will not be using our services, additionally paddlers should know that virtually all land along the James River in Botetourt County VA is privately owned so we absolutely ask that you respect private land owners property rights and not trespass. So if you are going to do your own trip feel free to use our maps, the and the Upper James River Water Trail website to help figure out the details.
2) Shuttle customers responsible for loading and unloading their own boats.
3) Shuttle service is by advance reservation only and can be made by calling 540-261-7334 or booking on line.
4) Shuttles will not be run when TRO staff considers river conditions unsafe (high water, severe weather, too cold).
